Hi..
I'm new to this list, and I'm currently reasearching ---wait for it..the
BROWN family *shock gasp* what an unusual name I hear you cry.
Yes folks, My mother's family was named Brown on both sides.
I've managed to trace back to a John Brown who married a Jennet Brown (nee
Anderson) in August1821 (both free settlers)
They show up in the muster of 1822 and both are listed as free. It appears
Jennet arrived on the Westmorland some time in 1821. One of the John
Brown's listed in the same muster also appers to have arrived on the
Westmorland but no date given.
As the immigration records for free settlers at that time seem to be almost
non-existant, I'm wondering the best way to proceed. I intend to look at the
shipping news in copies of the Hobart Gazette in the hope that their names
might show up there.
I' was hoping to try and trace them in the British Isles, but until I can
find some way of finding where they came from I'm at a loss..
I'm sharing this in the forlorn hope that someone else may have researched
the same family..
Any and all suggestions on how to proceed would be much appreciated.
