New member to this list seeks assistance toward finding the origins of John
Barrett who arrived in Hobart aboard the "Brixton" in 1820 (1821?). He
married Hannah Field in 1824 and had 8 Children. In 1842 he married
Elizabeth Bunker and had a further 7 children. He died in 1869.
John was a Baker/Grocer. His 2nd son, Hugh Sunderland Barrett, married
Julia Burgess in 1846. Hugh and his father in law were both "Members of the
House of Assembly" and were in business together as grocers from premises
on the SW intersection of Murray and Liverpool St.
Writer descends from Henry William Barrett who married Elizabeth Sargeant
in 1870, and migrated to New Zealand.
Contact with any other resaercher interested in the vessel "Brixton" would
also be welcomed.
