I'm using Cumberland for Windows and am quite happy with
it. It has full gedcom support and the capability to mask
recent events for the sake of privacy.

You can download a shareware version but there is a timeout
after which certain features are disabled till its
registered.

What I like most is the direct contact to the programmer
available via the Cumberland mailing list or by snailmail.
