Greetings List.
This is my first try at this and I do hope that someone can help me.
I've been at that brick wall for ages. This is my dilemma - Thomas &
Eliz PORTER and son Thomas (2) arrived from Ireland in 1840 at Port
Phillip. The next record I have is Thomas & Eliz arriving in Melb FROM
Launceston in 1846. I have birth records for two sons John Alexander b
1847 & William Alfred b 1850 both born in Melb. However, Eliz's death
cert. states that they lived in Tas for four years. There is also
mention of another son James (dead). I suspect that James was born in
Tas. I have been unable to find any reference to James in the records
that are available here. Eliz & Thomas' occupations were - houseservant
and maid servant. Would there be any records in Launceston or Hobart
that might shed some light on where they went in Tas or who they worked
for? Is there anyone that might have some ideas. I am going to be in
Tas 17th July to 24th and hope to be able spend at least one day on the
genealogy.
Thanks in anticipation Pat from Perth.
