I am trying to trace the movements of my McPherson side of the family
and am not having much success at all. Thought someone may have a
suggestion for me. This is all I know:

James and Janet McPherson came to Launceston in 1859 on the
"Broomielaw". They had with them a brother George McPherson and their
children James (5 yrs), John (9 yrs) and Isobella (born at sea). John
McPherson was my great great grandfather.

I do know know where they settled and can only go back to John McPherson
in the Melrose area, marrying Charlotte Denney (daughter of John Denney)
in October 1881 at Port Sorrell. About 4 years after that John,
Charlotte and family moved to the Abbotsham District to farm. One of
their sons was Burns McPherson.

I cannot find record of James, Janet, George or Isabella on the Pioneer
Index for that area. Only the marriage of John seems to start off in
that area. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could go from
here to try and ascertain what happened to James and Janet and their
other children. Would they have gone to Victoria and then John came
back when he was an adult?

Does anyone out there have any recollections of McPhersons in the
state. They were Methodists. If I got a copy of their marriage
certificate, would it show where they came from in Scotland?

Any connections, suggestions of info forthcoming would be very much
appreciated.

Thankyou in anticipation
Josie
