In New Zealand the "privacy act" pertains to the living only, so from a
genealogy standpoint it is really not an issue.
Practically however, it is a fence used by all local bodies, Govt agencies
and people such as Lawyers and Doctors to avoid divulging very reasonable
information and thus emphasising their superiority or pushing up prices.
Large numbers of do gooders play the game as well.
I feel better now.
