G'day everyone
My g-g-grandfather Thomas Matthew Guerin was born in Hobart Town, Tasmania
in 1828. I know this from both his marriage and death registrations. His
father was Francis Louis Guerin, a member of the 40th Regiment of Foot, part
of which was at the time stationed in Tasmania. I'm not sure who Thomas's
mother was as she is not mentioned on either his marriage or death
registrations. She is probably Marcella Farrell with whom Francis Louis had
another child in Sydney in 1826.
I, and others, have searched high and low in Tasmania for a record of Thomas
Matthew Guerin's birth and have found no mention of him. The reason I'm
writing this to the list is twofold.
Firstly to see if any others have had a similar problem with seemingly no
birth records in the late 1820's and have solved it, perhaps they could give
me some advice.
Secondly in the hope that some of you will remember the name Thomas Matthew
Guerin in Tasmania and if you come across it let me know. He did not grow up
in Tasmania, his fathers Regiment left for the East Indies in 1829 and it
was 1857 before Thomas Matthew returned to Australia and settled in
Victoria.
Thanks and Regards
