The Tasmanian Pioneer Index lists the civil registrations from 1838 (When
registrations began) to 1899. This index also includes some parish records
in particular those from 1803 to 1840 that cover the period before civil
registration. This index is on CD and Fiche. The reference numbers listed on
this relate to the actual records which are on microfilm and are available
at many libraries.( See the Tasmanian Family History service page at
http://www.vision.net.au/~tashistory/resource/bdms.htm for locations of
these films in mainland and New Zealand libraries)
The Justice Dept. has also released indices for Births Deaths and Marriages
from 1900 these are only on Fiche and cover the following years.
Births 1900 - 1905
Deaths 1900 - 1914 and 1915 - 1919
Marriages 1900 - 1914 and 1915 - 1919
