Hi List,
This shipping list wasn't requested by Milton or anyone, but it was on the
same page as the Phoenix lsit, so I've gone ahead and transcribed it anyway.
Must get back to work after this one ...

Arrived on Monday, the ship Cumberland, Captain Robert Carns, from England
the 28th of August, having touchd on her passage at Rio, where she stayed
three weeks, bringing 59 passengers, and a valuabl cargo of merchandize.
The Cumberland, which has arrived this wek from England, left Rio de
janeiro on the 17th of November, on which day a general embargo was laid at
that place on the shipping, in consequence o an Expedition to Bahia, to
quell an Insurrection in which the Military Governor had been assassinated
in his own house. ... It was understood that the Brazilian Loan had been
contracted for by Messrs. ROTHSCHILD & Co., and that its arrival was
immediately expected at Rio, whence the Cumberland made this port within
ten weeks, she having only procured her clearance the day prior to the
embargo.
The following is a list of passengers by the ship Cumberland:--
Cabin.--Alfred Stephen, Esq. Barrister at Law, and Mrs. Stephen; Major J.
S. Jackson, Mrs. Jackson, and family; Major T. D. Lord, Mrs. Lord, and
family; Mr. John Raine, (charterer); Miss Barbara Cottrell, Miss S. E.
Holland, Mr. and Mrs. Crowther and 2 children, Mr. W. Dangar, Mr. T.
Dangar, Mr. Thomas Stephenson, Mr. Frederick Pendray, and Mr. John
Elliott.--Also, Jane Jones, Mary Lewis, John Duncan, and Edmund M'Kenzie,
servants.
Steerage.--Mr. and Mrs. Facey and family, Mrs. Honor Makepeace and family,
Mr. dward Hays, Mr. Henry Batten, Mr. George Mann, Mr. Daniel Stockman, Mr.
William Skinner, Mr. Richard Smarden, Mr. George Evans, Mr. Francis Cook,
and Mr. Abraham Aaron.
