His answer was that he did not think his Brisbane office was aware of the
concern coming from the Genealogy section which I found very hard to
swallow. He stated that the Bureau was concerned with confidentiality and
that in the past all forms were destroyed and he pointed out the British
situation that had every detail available on the last Census, and did not
think people would want that. (I did not know this was correct )

The British census returns are not available to the public till 100
years afterwards. Statistical data is published, but that is all.
The next one is therefore the 1901, released on 2nd January 2002 -
online we hope.
