I agree. We don't really need to know about the rest of it, just the first bit of information. I think if the campaign was for that we would have a good chance of saving it.

I'd like to add a little bit of info I was told at this point. I know a lady
who does surveys for the census department and she is of the opinion that to
satisfy future genealogists all that would be necessary would be to save the
first page only of the census, which gives names ages and relationships of
people in the household on the night. The rest, which is more confidential
information like income etc, she felt possibly should be destroyed. Perhaps
if there was a campaign to save only part of the census it might help the
cause a little.
