Hi,

As a new subscriber to this list, I wish to ask a question of the more
*experienced* list members.

"Are ther any Historia Maps of Tasmania on the net?"

I have found many modern editions, but I am trying to trace the journey of
Joseph HORLER who arrived in VDL on 3 March 1835 on the Vessel "Waterloo"
needless to say that he didn't arrive as a tourist, he went to VDL
for a Life long experience.

Joseph was born in Oakhill, Somerset, England abt. 1810, I have in my
possession a reference that he may have been the son of Joseph & Mary
HORLER of Oakhill and that he was baptised in 1812, at Ashwick
Presbertarian Church, his crime was Highway Robbery.

The copies of his documents that I have obtained from Hobart, cover his
life between 1835 & 1842 after which there are no further details, so I am
not sure whether he died or, Finally, behaved himself for a long enogh
period to enable him to take advantage of a Ticket of Leave.

His movements appear to have taken him to Frankland (sic) Bagdad, Ross,
Richmond, New Norfolk & possibly Bushy Park.

The Horler family that live in Tasmania at present arrived much later in
the century as free settlers, and have no connection that is known to date.

Hope that some one can help,

Regards,
Tony M
Bright, Victoria.
