The map I have is s'posed to give an indication of who was where in the
1820s which I thought was rather useful so I photocopied it. From looking
at that, I suspect 'Eastern Marshes' was the name for all the land out
there to the east of the Port Dalrymple Road or whatever it was called then.

If she doesn't mind me saying, and assuming I read my handwriting right,
the property owner in question is R.W. Loane.

Nice to know I'm not the only one that sat down one day and did that. Just
for completeness I checked the road atlas and according to that it's 84 km
from Bridgewater (on the northern extremity of Hobart for interstate
readers) and 121 km from the centre of the city. And 115 km from
Launceston. So if those figures are right (and I don't guarantee they are),
it's actually considerably more than 200 km between the two city centres. I
thought it was fairly close to 200 something like 199. No wonder the bus
trip seems so long and dull. I might try folding the map next time <g>
