Hi,
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Convict CD. I was wondering if
someone wouldn't mind looking up my 3rd great grandfather, William Prentice
who arrived on the 'Manlius' in 1828.
I would be very interested in how it compares to my file.
Regards,
Brett Prentice

> Hi Louise,
> Your not wrong about the inconsistencies on the Tasmanian CD Rom, I have
come across dozens of them in my current research.
> However I must make mention that the "Emu" along with other vessels like
the Pilot, Kangaroo, Elizabeth Henrietta, Jupiter, Prince Leopold and the
Duke of Wellington, just to mention a few, were used as "inter colonial"
transports between Sydney and VDL. Unfortunately the people who put
together the CD Rom didn't allow you to search for the primary transport
from the UK to Australia.
> As an example of this, Patrick Murphy entry #56675 arrived in Sydney on
the "Chapman", and was then sent down to VDL on the "Jupiter". If you
search for Patrick Murphy arriving on the "Chapman", you won't get a
result.
> As for the "Indefatigable", it all depends on what trip you are referring
to. The "Indefatigable" arrived direct to VDL from the UK in mid October
1812, it also made another trip arriving in NSW at the end of April 1815.
Some of the convicts on the second trip were then conveyed down to VDL on
the "Emu".
> I have found plenty of "double" entries for people who quite clearly are
one in the same person yet they haven't been cross referenced.
> My biggest bug bear regarding the CD Rom is searching for people with an
apostrophe in their surname like O'Brien or O'Neill, searching for these
names is a nightmare as the program spits the dummy and closes down!!!
