Hi Mary,

The Government Gazette, Hobart, listed property owners in Tasmania, & will
show properties for Launceston. Looking at a printout I have for January
1873 the headings are -"Description of the property (whether house, land,
cottage, farm etc); Name or Situation of the property; Name & Residence of
the Occupier of the property; Name & Residence of the Proprietor of the
property; Area of the property; Rateable Value".

From memory the land values were listed twice yearly for the various
municipalities, & using this I able to follow the movement of my forefather
in Launceston over the years & see when he rented a house, & when he owned
his house. The Gazettes have been filmed by the LDS (1816-1925) & are
available on microfilm, so you will find the various years covered in their
catalogue, which is on line. I think the Launceston Library has later years
of the Gazette.
