I recently found my gr.gr.grandmother - by going through burial records -
(well, tell truth a cousin did, but it was my idea) looking for anyone with
the same Christian name.

Despite a search of marriage indexes she hadn't turned up when she should
have - ie the electronic-index-searcher didn't find her when I originally
asked - anyway sure enough she had remarried - (still can't find previous
hubby's death) and was buried in the same cemetery as her two daughters and
their husbands.

Yes, we did think to look there first - but this was some 20 years after I'd
first "made her acquaintance" so's to speak. Some things just take time!!!

So the lesson is - find out all you can on where Johannes settles over the
years and check cemeteries there. Families did stick together a bit more
then it seems! Given here, I mean, the ones that did break away from the
"old country" by whichever means!!!!

Remember - that as a woman - she wouldn't be likely to recorded much in her
life-time. Not allowed to vote, own land etc. BUT post-partum death was a
very high scenario too. If catholic and only one child (or were there
others?) - seems likely.

Just another thought too - was she definitely a "wife" - ie have you the
marriage certification - because she may have married (someone else) or died
under her maiden name. IN FACT being Scottish - that's a very strong
liklihood too - they don't drop their maiden names and lose their identity.
It varies, of course, but you may find her still indexed under that maiden
name, if you haven't tried that.

What was the Tasmanian Genealogy Society has them all listed on their
web-site. Sorry I don't have the URL - and can't recall what it's called
now - but I found it via "google" so try "Tasmanian Cemeteries" and you may
too.

I am trying to get through a wall with Isabell Gordon from Scotland, wife of
Edward Murray, who disappears after the christening at Catholic Church in
Hobart
in 1835.
So thought I would find all the cemeteries in existence at that time, as
maybe
she died? Her son was Johannes (William John) who grows up in Tasmania and
marries , then moves to Warnambool with wife and family to live the rest of
his
days.
Any help welcomed.
