Subject: [AUS-Tas] BOLTON, Jonathon & William, Soldiers guarding convicts
Date: Sat, 3 Aug 2002 21:26:54 +1000
Hello Tasmanian researchers
Wondering if anyone has any information about brothers Jonathon & William BOLTON, who came to Tasmania in the 1830s as soldiers guarding convicts.
I think Jonathon was in the 51st Regiment & William in the 58th.(from British Army in Aust fiche).
I have Jonathon on Norfolk Island from 1845 - 1855, (no longer in the army) then in Tas, then to Vic late 1850s, but have not yet found Jonathon or William in the period 1830 - 1845
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to trace their movements / life in Tasmania please?
(Have looked in Colonial Tas - Norfolk Is index) Have also looked in Tas BDM - nothing in that period on Jonathon & can't pick which William might be mine.
Can anyone suggest sources which will help me to track soldiers guarding convicts please? Are there any sources listing British Army discharges in Australia?
Thank you
Cheers
Marion
(Melbourne)
