Andrea,

If you are looking for information pre New Zealand, as you are in Melbourne
you could visit the State Library in Swanston Street. Their genealogy
section has the N.Z. BDMs on microfiche. They are a little like the English
records - in quarters of years and sometimes difficult to read. When you
find the registration number, ring the N.Z. High Commission in Canberra who
will send you a form for completion and return to them with money. I think
the cost recently went from AU$8 to AU$30. What you get back from N.Z.
(again via Canberra) is the same as what we get in Victoria - i.e., a
photocopy of the registration.

I hope this information is still correct from when I was doing New Zealand
last year.
