Subject: [AUS-Tas] Hobart jail cemetery question
Date: Tue, 1 Oct 2002 23:39:40 +0100
I have a record of an ancestor's burial "in the Grounds of the Prisoners Barracks in the County of Hobart" (1847).
Can anyone give any further general information on this?
I found an online photo of the Chapel for the adjacent Prisoner's Barracks on the corner of Brisbane and Campbell Streets. Did a burial site exist there or were there several? I imagine they were buried with little expense?
(I see Hobart FHS have a talk on early Hobart cemeteries coming up, but I'm the other side of the world!)
Thanks
