I don't know if the system in Tassie was the same as NSW, but I don't see why
it would be much different:
In NSW the TOLs issued to the recipient were cut from a book; leaving a butt
(known as a ticket-of-leave butt) in the book. A butt usually has lots of
info - the one for my ggg-grandfather (in NSW) had the original issue, a
revocation (for disorderly conduct), and a restoral all noted on the butt;
including ref numbers to the relevent Colonial Secretary's papers.
The butt books for NSW are available on microfilm; I'm don't know how late
these cover Tasmania. The State Library of Tasmania has a microfilm "Tasmania
- ticket of leave register, 1845-1857" but I don't know what sort of detail
this has.
Good luck,
Steve
