Hello Rose in St. Helens and Bill in Cairns :

Thank you both for your response concerning the book "The Floating Brothel". It would appear that the book is somewhat readily available in Australia - at the library in Cairns or from the site provided by Rose in Tasmania. At $14 Australian (about $10 Canadian) the book is "a steal". I may be able to get it in this part of the world now that I know the name of the author (thanks to both of you) and the ISBN number (thanks to Bill). One of the problems here is that even the leading bookstores seem to have either an ignorance of or a disdain for books about Australian history - especially seemingly "offbeat" publications such as "The Floating Brothel". I made inquiries at Chapters, one of Canada's leading book stores, and the manager of the history section looked at me suspiciously as if he thought I was "a dirty old man" or into pornography. After some tedious explanation by me about the book's historical content, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Never heard of it"!
. I shall try again and let you know if I am successful.
Sunny today (Friday) and warm ...we are enjoying a balmy +1. Take care.......

Will. Smith,
Canada
