Hi Listers,
On the LONDON-L list I had posted about my own Uncle known as Uncle Peter
and wasted years looking for that name, only to find his real name was
Ronald Peter. None of our surviving family had known that. maybe someone
out there, can't find their family for this reason. A lady on the London
list has given some examples, maybe something like this is why you are
having troubles locating your Tasmanian ancestor. They were called
something very different. Thought it worthwhile passing on.

us all as CLAUDE with a wife ROSIE. after much anguish it came to light that
he is entered as LORD,on his birth cert, and his wife's name is ANN ROSE.!

> Here the nurse asks the patient's name, and then what they are usually
called. This is obviously a great help when talking to someone in a 'whoozy'
state .Hearing yourself called by a familiar name is very comforting. I
have never been called Elizabeth , always Betty.
So there was ROBIN --real name was FITZ " " CHRISTOPHER
NELLY " " DANIELLA
NAT " " IGNATIUS
TED, DOREY = THEODORE
DOLLY = DOROTHY
NESSIE = AGNES, ENESS
RIA = HENRIETTA.
I also remembered someone we knew as BILL
until he married in his late 40's when we heard the registrar give him the
Christian names of Bernard Ivan Lucas ...
Richard E Grant the actor is known as REG too, so be aware all those who are
looking for someone with a short name. SAM may not be a Samuel after all.

All these things are sent to try us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
