Hi Des/Lorraine? :D

Before your email I hadn't really thought much about the "Way Back When" series. If you're currently receiving it, or someone else on the list, can you please let me know if it covers the Burnie area as well? I don't think I have any ancestors from Launceston, but I do have plenty along the north coast. I'll definitely check out the website too, thank you for letting us know about it! :D

Take care,

Rob.

Hello Listers

By now some of you may have read the first few articles in the "Way Back When" series published in the Saturday editions of "The Examiner" (Launceston). For those who are from further afield, I believe the stories may be found on the Launceston Historical Society's website.

The series features interesting stories of people, places and events of 19th century Northern Tasmania and is a joint project of the Launceston, West Tamar & George Town & District Historical Societies for the Bicentenary.

As the most successful "On the Tide" series covers the Tamar River, this series will tell the stories from further inland and perhaps of the lesser known families from our past.

The early articles will focus on the early settlement of the George Town, Launceston, Norfolk Plains, Westbury/Deloraine and West Tamar regions. Later articles will cover a wider geographical area, including the Northeast and Northwest regions, and the later time periods. Articles can be about an early settler to the region, an event, a place, a building or an organisation and should be between 500 and 600 words in length.

If you have a story of your family or of an interesting event, person or place to tell, please consider submitting it to:

Anne Bartlett, chairman of co-ordinating committee, (phone 6344 5258) or email ) or Prue Wright (phone 6394 7348)

I you have a story which falls into this category, please consider submitting it to
