Hi all,

"Sorell Heritage Study - Site Inventory - Volume 1" has the Carlton Watch
House at the Carlton Road/Fulham Road intersection. There is nothing there
now - just an open paddock. It is regularly ploughed and cropped.

Regards,

Alex Green.

Subject: [AUS-Tas] Constable at Carlton

> Hello list
> I have John Kearns convict per Samuel Boddington named as a constable at
Carlton, surprisingly (to me at any rate) only 3 years after his arrival in
1846, on his daughters birth registration. I have 2 questions Due to the
absence of records from Pol 324 1845-1854, which of course are the years I
would be interested in,
> 1. is anyone aware of any other records which would give me a brief
outline of my convicts tenure as constable in the Sorell area which from
what I can find is where Carlton is located?? and
> 2. would a residence be provided as a part of the package for a convict
constable and his family and does anyone know of a police station? at
Carlton/Carlton river or would it have been located at Sorell in that era
> welcome any ideas regards Chris Beasley in Tremont
