Re your last posting on 'Free'. So not to confuse everyone for the
future your comments give two alternatives as to what this may mean and
you have not specified the third and correct answer. It means that the
groom or bride was 'free' at the time of the ceremony. They may have
been former convicts and they also may never have been convicts.
I have three convicts ancestors who have married 'Free' persons. Two of
these persons were former convicts and the third was never a convict.
The simple answer is that 'Free' means Free at the time of the ceremony
and nothing more or less.
