Hi Joan,

I had a look at the Census of Children 1827 and found a listing of 3
children with the surname of Burkingshaw, this family group appear to be
living in the lower Pittwater area when the Census was taken.
Mary aged 12 - not at school
Eliza aged 9 - not at school
Sarah aged 3 - not at school

I notice on the Tasmanian Pioneer Index that Ann Burkinshaw died and was
buried on 24th June 1827, her father is listed as John, her age was given
as 10 yrs, the registration place is given as Sorell, which corresponds to
being in lower Pittwater.
By the way, The Census although headed up as 1827, was really compiled in
December of 1827 and the January and February of 1828, after Ann's death.

So it would appear when Margaret came to Australia she came with Mary, Ann
and Eliza. I couldn't find a baptismal entry for the youngest child Sarah
in Tasmania, however going by her age at the time of her marriage in 1841,
she would have been born circa 1824.

Hope this is of some help.

Regards,
Liz Penprase
