Dear Trudyand Dianne,
O'Brien's Bridge is on Humpheys Rivulet and is at the end of the city of Glenorchy going towards Montrose and Rosetta. This was where Thomas O'Brien had his grant in 1808. To me it has always been part of Glenorchy but in the early days it was called O'Brien's Bridge. Like Hobart and Hobart Town they were interchangeable for many years.

Regards

Irene

Hello Dianne and list

O'Brien's Bridge is listed in "Where in Tasmania?" as 'now renamed
Glenorchy'. However, just having entered the 1858 valuation roll for Hobart
Districts into a database, I am aware that in 1858 at least, the terms
Glenorchy and O'Brien's Bridge were used for separate locations. From what
I can glean from the valuation roll records, O'Brien's Bridge was nearer New
Town, so that would be more the area that is now known as Moonah (which is
in the Glenorchy City area). Does anyone have any other information on
this? Or perhaps, the place names Glenorchy and O'Brien's Bridge were used
interchangeably in 1858?

Regards
Trudy

Hi

I wonder if some one can please help me or put me in the right direction of
where to look.

Have just discovered that there is a O'Brien's Bridge in Tasmania.

Where is it?

My husbands grandfather Charles Daniel was born in New Norfolk 1869 to
Thomas FitzGerald and Bridget Gleeson
On the certificate the witness is A FitzGerald sister from O'Brien's Bridge

Am I able to search any records to trace this person?
Land records or property ownership etc.

New to this list and it is very informative and helpful to all

thanks in advance
