I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned the biography of John Lee Archer,
by Roy Smith. It's called 'John Lee Archer: Tasanian architect and
engineer', and was published in 1962 by the Tasmanian Historical Research
Association. It's available in Tasmanian libraries, and probably on
inter-library loan in other states. Or you may be able to get a second hand
copy.

It gives information about his family background, as well as describing his
work as architect in Tasmania. It has lots of lovely photos and plans of
his buildings.
