Hi Louise
TAM O'SHANTER [20 November, 1836] The 360 ton TAM 0'SHANTER was privately
chartered and commanded by Captain Whiteman Freeman. (Another source said
she was 383 tons). She sailed from London on 20 July, 1836 and arrived at
Kingscote, Kangaroo Island, on 20 November, 1836. She then proceeded to
Holdfast Bay (Port Adelaide) and tried to enter the Port River, only to run
aground on a sandbar. Four days later she was refloated and moved up to her
landing place. Fifty nine passengers were listed. One of them was Robert
WILMANT, wife and two children.
I don't know if the Tam O'Shanter made any other voyages to Australia.
Using the search criteria ""Tam O'Shanter" Australia Ship" in Google gives
850 hits.
