Firstly, have you been in contact with Liz Penprase and Gary Wilson, they
are compling a list of everybody in early tas. They are on rootsweb and may
be able to help.

I have concentrated on Nicol/Nicoll/Nichol/Nicholls and varients.
I have a theory, which may be worth checking out, if you haven't already.

Your Maria Nicol was born 26 Dec 1836 (7699/1837) father John mother Mary
Ann father's occupation- carpenter-Then John disappears from maria's life
and Mary Ann takes up with Frederick Henry Byron

A Jane Nicol is born 31 Jan 1841(1541/1841) Launceston. father john mother
Jane Brown
then a John Nicholl is born 26 Sept 1842 (1148/1842) Launceston. father John
mother Jane Brown
Then a John Nicholl dies 11 Sept 1842 age 32 Launceston(700/1842)

What was this John's occupation?-carpenter?

As John died before the son John was born , there may be mention of the
father on his birth rego or baptism.

Jane then proceeded to possibly then have a liason with a Charles Wilson and
produce 3 children

with these people or claim them as there own.
