Hi Neville,
The Margaret Coventry who married John Baker is highly likely the daughter
of Mary Ann Martin and William Coventry, Margaret was baptised in April
1811, so would have been about 17 at the time of her marriage in July 1828.
We know that Mary Ann Martin went by the surname of Coventry in the musters
as early as 1814. We know from the baptisms of Margaret's younger siblings
James William and John Coventry that Mary Ann Martin was unmarried, so she
was in a defacto relationship with William Coventry.
There are 5 John Baker's who arrived Hobart as convicts (not including the
John Baker who ended up in PD), anyone of these men could be a candidate as
a husband for Margaret Coventry.
It appears that Margaret and John Baker had 6 children from 1825 through to
1837, their eldest daughter was baptised Mary Ann, probably named after her
grandmother Mary Ann Martin.
I believe that the Margaret Baker who died in Hobart in 1839 aged 30 is more
than likely the woman described above.
Regards,
Liz Penprase
