Thankyou Joan
You are right on the button I was unable to get a definitive reply from the
list so the Archives confirmed yesterday that the ship in question was
indeed Pestongee Bomangee Its name alone is also the source of some debate
but general consensus is that it is spelt with a double J You have an
arrival date of May I take it to mean 1847 for your man Archives have given
me Apr 8 1847 in Hobart but still think this requires further investigation
probably via the Gazette the newspaper or as you suggest and will have a
look at my first opportunity
Just as an aside the ships name seems to have derived from an Indian owner
or partowner who was a school chum of Rudyard Kipling and is mentioned in
one of his books
My thanks to Gaylene Kesa Jenny Meryl Cara for their interest
cheers Chris in Tremont
