Hi Lorraine, Robert ec.

I can confirm that Gamaliel Butler never lived at "Retreat" himself, but
his youngest daughter, Maria, married Adolphus Frederic Rooke in 1863,
after his first wife, Susan Kinder Archer, died. Gamaliel was my gg
grandfather, and the founder of the law firm, Butler, McIntyre and
Butler. Gamaliel was very astute, and gathered land where he thought it
would be advantageous. He wasn't often wrong. Incidently, his home at
Pontville, "Shene" is currently for sale.
