Hello everyone,

I wish to comment about a message which was sent to our list over the weekend
about a new Victorian historical and geographical website, still apparently
under construction.

"Mr Optimist" who sent the message to the list only subscribed for the purpose
of advertising his website, for which I understand he will receive some sort of
payment depending on how many of you click on the banner advertisements on his
website. He did not join our list to participate in meaningful discussion, he
joined for his own personal gain and did not even have the courtesy to sign his
name. It took him 12 minutes to subscribe, send his message, and unsubscribe.
Although his website is relevant to the history of Victoria and it may well be a
good website, I believe the actions of this "temporary" subscriber constitutes
spamming and I have regrettably banned him from subscribing to this list again.

If any of you have any doubts at all about sending a post to the list, please
contact me to check it out. I realise that there will be some "grey" areas from
time to time when it comes to what is or is not spam, but I would appreciate the
opportunity of looking at it first.
