I think that as births before and after were registered, and that I suspect
at least one "missing" registration may have been for a twin (both boys
named Malcolm, one of whom died close to birth), so a mistake might have
occurred.

Neither do I, but there were a number of problems outlined in the article,
which were all quite valid in their own way. However, one of the main
reasons for "missing" entries appears to be due to the time constraints
written into the law itself, especially when applied to outlying districts
and the travelling Deputy registrars. If you haven't read the article
already, I'd recommend getting a copy of it!

I know that there is a distant connection at Lethbridge, but I'm not sure
about the Meredith connection. However, most of the MacGILLIVRAY and
McGILLIVRAYS in Victoria & NSW were connected in some way, by cousin ties,
so they probably are. Can you give me some more details of which John this
was?
