Hi Folks,

Eliza CALLAGHAN (aka Sarah THOMPSON) was born 1803, Co. Clare, Ireland. By
1820 she was living in London and 1821 convicted & transported to VDL for
passing forged banknotes. In 1824 she absconded and found refuge on John
BATMANs property at Ben Lomond, east of Launceston.

They had 3 illegitimate daughters before marrying in 1828, then another four
daughters and one son.

So Eliza was the wife of THE John BATMAN of the Port Phillip Association.

William WILLOUGHBY was BATMAN's Clerk and in 1836 Eliza started a
relationship with him. BATMAN died in 1839 and Eliza married WILLOUGHBY in
1841 in Melbourne.

OK, now lets jump to Geelong (Geelong West?) in 1852 - 31st March, Sarah
WILLOUGHBY was murdered. It appears that Sarah WILLOUGHBY is Eliza
CALLAGHAN / Eliza BATMAN / Eliza WILLOUGHBY.

Can anyone help me out with more info on this. I know I'll have to pull out
the Geelong Advertiser (Records Centre is closed until next week and not
sure about Deakin Uni / Waurn Ponds). I'll also have to get to Laverton and
hope the inquest / Court Records are still there ?????

Oh boy, why do I always want to chase up the really interesting important
things when something is shut!!!!!!!
