Hello Barbara,

Some of the other photo's in the collection have been dated 1863 and 1865 by
the reference number the photographer wrote on them.

The one concerning the soldier, was taken around the same time and was
identified as Artillery Sergeant by a Military Historian friend of mine
using his reference sources.

He stated that it is definitely an Artillery uniform not infantry or rifle
and around the 1870's - possibly earlier, so I was guided by him.

I can forward you a copy of the photo if you like as a jpeg attachment.

Other names that are referenced in my searches are Baldock's, Mason's and
Tonkin's - but the photo is of a Sutton.
