G'day Terri,
I knew this name rang a bell - just took me a while to dig through the bits
to find it - would you believe it's an email I got back in March last year??
Amazing how some names just stick!!!! Anyway, I know someone who is
researching Henrietta Dugdale in some detail - could be writing a book? or
researching for someone writing a book?? Not sure about that bit, but she
asked me for some info at the time and I was able to point her in the right
direction (I think!).
When I asked her to remind me who she was researching (after a conversation
about something else), she sent the following ...
=====================
The "bodies" I am interested in are Henrietta Dugdale, her husband William
(master mariner) and their three sons born at Queenscliff between 1856 and
December 1861. DOD claims that about 1866 the family moved out of the
township to the Spring Hill area next to "Macdonalds" which could of course
be McDonalds. I have determined that A.C.Macdonald who purchased many
Queenscliff lots was by the 1870s a real estate agent at Geelong. Any
connections with the Alexander or Angus you mentioned. The Dugdale family is
said to have left Queenscliff for New Zealand in February 1875, which was
true for William and two of the sons, but Henrietta had already left the
marriage by the end of 1870 and was living in Camberwell where she remained
until C1914. She died at Point Lonsdale in June 1918 having been in the care
of Robert Jordan's widow and daughter for four years. So anything you come
across about the Dugdales between the time they married (March 1853 at St
Paul's Melbourne) and 1875 would be a bonus. In the meantime I'll pass on
any fragments about Bellarine (such as above) that I come across.
A warning about the stone over Henrietta's grave at Queenscliff. Both birth
and death dates are wrong (should be 1827 and 1918) and the Society of which
she was president was the Victorian Women's Suffrage Society.

=====================================================
Firstly - an apology!
I'm not trying to be difficult or mean, but the indexes referred to have
been produced for the Bellarine Historical Society. Research Requests are
one of the few methods of revenue raising for the Society which needs all
the support it can get, especially if it is to continue its wonderful
indexing and cataloguing projects. Everyone will benefit from the indexes,
so the Society needs your contributions to ensure that it continues.
Should you require more details of your names from the indexes and
potentially copies of extracts or original records (this varies from index
to index), standard research requests should be sent to :-
Bellarine Historical Society Inc
PO Box 53
Drysdale Vic 3222
together with a cheque or money order for $10. If there appear to be a lot
of entries, it would probably be worth sending $15 to cover the extra
photocopying - will save time in the Society letting you know the extra
cost. Please mention that this request has come via the Internet and
request it to be passed on for my attention.
Of course anyone is welcome to visit the Historical Society to do their own
research or ask others who may be able to do it for them - the only cost
would be the $2.00 entrance fee and any photocopying costs.
News on the latest indexes can be found at

=====================================================
Terri, I've put a copy of the Drysdale Courts Index and the Bellarine Rate
Books Index in at the GHRC which is where the original registers / books are
anyway, so you can check the above references there. The Post Office
Directories mentioned in the list are the ones on fiche at the GHRC.
If you would like me to put you in touch with the person who sent the first
lot of info, give me a yell.
Regards ...... Susie Z
