Lorraine,

I am another 'lurker'! However, you already have my ancestor listed in your publication, Geelong Irish. Catherine Snell was my GGG Grandmother - in fact I have a rather glamorous photograph of her. My problem is with the other half of the family who are proving very elusive. Catherine Snell presumably married Julius Marion sometime about 1856 but there doesn't appear to be any record of the marriage. There is no record either of the birth of their first son, John Napoleon and so far I haven't found how or when Julius arrived in Australia!. Their next child (Mary Ann) was born in 1858 at Germantown (Grovedale), but when Julius died in 1904 John's age was given was 10 years older than Mary Ann (likewise on Catherine Snell's d/cert) so I wonder whether Julius had been married before - but as usual, haven't been able to locate anything. They are a frustrating bunch!

Can you tell me what the criteria were for including someone in the Geelong Irish book? Was it fairly random, or did the people chosen achieve something?

If by any chance someone else is researching the Marion family, I'd be delighted to make contact.
