gobsmacked to read about so many Memorials / Monuments in our area !

LOCATION Red Rock scenic lookout, Alvie, 17 km. northwest from Colac.
DESCRIPTION Soldiers memorial ca. 4 m. high with 4 steps and an obelisk
inscribed on eastern side 'Fought and Served' and listing the
names of 16 men and 1 nurse. Installed by Alvie District War
Memorial Committee and unveiled by General Birdwood on 24
March 1920. Maintained by Colac Shire in good condition.
Gaylord Brothers carted the stone to the top of the Red Rock
using horse-drawn sledges.

LOCALITY Birregurra
LOCATION Within the grounds of the Mechanics Institute, Main Street,
Birregurra.
DESCRIPTION Granite obelisk, on the base of which is inscribed the names
of 17 servicemen from the district who died, and of many
others who served in World War I from the Birregurra district.
It originally stood in Main Street but was removed to this
site in 1977 because of traffic problems.

LOCATION In Memorial Square, Murray Street, Colac.
DESCRIPTION Memorial comprises a large mausoleum-like structure set in a
paved courtyard and flanked by two memorial columns which
commemorate the soldiers of World War 2 and the Korean War.
The Mausoleum has an open chamber on the walls of which are
inscribed the names of the local men who died in World War I.
