MEMORIAL GOORANGAI WRECK MEMORIAL, QUEENSCLIFF

LOCATION At southern end of Hesse Street at Shortland's Bluff,
Queenscliff, overlooking the Rip at Lookout Point.
DESCRIPTION Bronze tablet attached to a sloping marble slab on a bluestone
base with a tubular steel cross mounted at the head. The
inscription commemorates the sinking of HMAS Goorangai in a
collision with HMAS Duntroon on 20 November 1940 with the
loss of all 24 men on the Goorangai, adding the note 'They are
the flowers of the sea'. The memorial was erected by the
Naval Commemoration Committee of Victoria, November 1980'.

LOCATION At the Thomson Shopping Centre on Ormond Road (Bellarine
Highway), near Tate St, Geelong, opposite the Eastern
Cemetery.
DESCRIPTION Stone cairn with red granite and bronze plaques presented to
the City of Geelong in memory of Dr Alexander C. Thomson,
arrived in Tasmania 1825, emigrated to Victoria 1836, pioneer
and first mayor of Geelong 9 February 1850, by the
municipality of Clarence, Tasmania, on the occasion of its
centenary 1960'. The bronze tablet indicates the memorial was
unveiled by the deputy Chairman of the Municipality of
Clarence, J.W. Miley on 9 August 1961.

MEMORIAL WAR MEMORIAL. POINT LONSDALE

LOCATION North-west corner of Glaneuse and Kirk Roads, Point Lonsdale.
DESCRIPTION Tall concrete obelisk with supporting walls on each side and
with brass tablets on three sides. The central plaque with
the AIF insignia lists the names of two war dead from each of
World Wars I and II. The side plaque for World War I lists
nine names of men who served, and that for World War II lists
17 names.
