Subject: [GEELONG] Lookup Book Index Version 001

G'day Folks,

There's no simple way of doing this so I'll just ask for patience!

If you would like to request a lookup of our Geelong and District
Consolidated Book Index for your surnames / placenames etc., then please put
your request up here on the mailing list. The reason I've suggested the
mailing list is it's another chance for people to see who you're
researching, BUT I won't be sending replies via the mailing list as it will
clog it up too much, so if you're interested in the reply, you'll have to
put in your own request.

The replies will have the following format ... (Julie, here are your WHELAN
entries) ...

Index Entry X1 Book Title X2 Page Numbers
Whelan the Wrecker // The Grove That Grew : The History of Ocean Grove //
12
Whelan the Wrecker // The History of Barwon Heads & District // 8
Whelan, J. // Queenscliff Parish Centenary : 1899 - 1999 // 1
Whelan, Jack // The Grove That Grew : The History of Ocean Grove // 41
Whelan, Mary // Queenscliff Parish Centenary : 1899 - 1999 // 68
Whelan, T. // Queenscliff Parish Centenary : 1899 - 1999 // 25

These entries show ...

1. Index entry (Surname, First Name(s) or Subject)
2. Book Title
3. Page Numbers

To check the details of the book to ensure you've got the RIGHT edition,

A copy of the index is now ready for distribution to the Research Centres -
relevant people have been notified but none have been in a hurry to reply!
So far, the indexed has been installed at the Bellarine Historical Society.
I may be at the Geelong Historical Records Centre this afternoon with their
copy, and the others need to put up their hands!!!! So, if you don't want
to put your request up here, then pressure your local research centre to
organise a copy. IMPORTANT NOTE - this will ONLY be made available to
centres in the Geelong and District region, and NOT outside that area. This
isn't being mean, just being practical as this index will continually be
updated and I'm not about to devote every waking moment looking after
centres outside our region! <vbg> Of course, you won't miss out, because
you just ask for your lookups here, and there's no charge for this.

Once you have your entries from the Index, obviously I'd hope that you'd
make a genuine effort to find the book (at your local library or wherever),
but if this becomes too difficult, I'm sure there will be people on the list
who will help out - just don't abuse their kindness!!!

OK - basically I'll reply privately with the info in the order that I
receive the requests. If you don't receive an answer within 24 hours,
please be patient - it just means I've got a few to do and I'll get to it as
soon as I can!

It would be helpful if you actually replied to this message so that the
Subject line stayed the same (easier for me to sort out from the other
messages), but please delete the rest of the message as you don't need to
send all this to me again. Just list out the names / subjects you want me
to check - don't waste your time giving me the history / background / family
story as that will make no difference to what I find in the index!!

OK - my fingers are crossed, eyes shut tight and I'm about to hit the send
button ...... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Regards ..... Susie Z
