SERIES The contributor has described the personal records of
Alexander McMillan as follows: Diary of Alexander
McMillan describing a sea voyage from Plymouth to Geelong
on board the Cambodia as a steerage passenger. The
master was John Joseph Hammach. The diary gives a full
account of shipboard life, and describes fellow Scottish
migrants, passengers and crew, death and illness,
Christmas and New Year celebrations, and types of
entertainment, 1851-1852 (1 vol.).
HISTORICAL CONTEXT Alexander McMillan left Glasgow to migrate to Australia
in 1851 and settled at Braeside farm, Rhymney, Vic.
