Hi Sue

The following is extracted from the 'Geelong Biographical Register' which
is published with the 'Investigator' by the Geelong Historical Society.

"William ROADKNIGHT (1792-1862) was born Warwickshire, England. Died at
'Barwon Cottage' Geelong 1862
Married 1/ Harriet WHITE who d. TAS 1835 . Issue: William, Thomas, Henry,
Harriet, Jane. Arrived Tasmania 1820 on 'Skelton'
marr. 2/ 1838 TAS Elizabeth TWAMLEY who d. 1857. Issue: Zachariah
marr. 3/ 1860 Helen BUCHANAN
In May 1836 William, with son Thomas, arrived in Port Phillip and selected
land at Geelong on banks of the Barwon near Ceres. In 1839 he purchased 22
acres on north bank of Barwon and built 'Barwon Cottage'. Over next 10
years he took up or purchased land south-west of Winchelsea (1838 Yan Yan
Gurt Station, 1839 Gerangamete Station, 1840 River Station, 1848 Deans
Marsh Station, 1850 Cherry Tree Hill Station, 1844 Stony Rises Station)
These amounted to thousands of acres and you could perhaps look at Billis &
Kenyan for more details.
As well as the Street in Birregurra there is a Roadknight Creek and Road at
Forrest, as well as Point Roadknight on the coast.

Regards
Lorraine Phelan
