Dear Geelong Listers
In addition to the two March Senior Citizen Festival 2002 events
already posted, there are two Victorian Heritage Festival events
planned for April. Thanks again to our List Owner, permission has
been given to post details about two events with local heritage
themes planned for April during the Victorian Heritage Festival 2002.
We hope you might like to book. You don't need to be a Senior Citizen
for these two events.

1. Excursion to Mount Rothwell Homestead, Little River Earth
Sanctuary and Little River heritage places.
Thursday 4th April 10am - 3.30pm
This event is an all day bus excursion departing from Barwon Grange
Fernleigh Street Newtown Geelong at 10am. The trip is a visit to
Mount Rothwell Homestead at Little River Earth Sanctuary and incudes
Little River churches, railway station, Rothwell bridge and Rothwell
cemetery.
Mount Rothwell Homestead near the You Yangs was constructed for
pastoralist Robert Chirnside, nephew of Thomas and Andrew Chirnside
of Werribee Park, in 1873 to the designs of architect P Colquhuoun.
Features are the rare decorative elaborate plaster and stencil work
and the remnant garden. It is classified by the National Trust and
registered by Heritage Victoria and the Australian Heritage
Commission. The 1000 hectare Little River Earth Sanctuary and other
nearby heritage places are part of the tour.

2. Barwon River Industrial Heritage Track
Thursday 11th April 10am to 3.30pm
This event is an all day excursion by bus departing from Barwon
Grange Fernleigh Street Newtown Geelong at 10.15am. There is some
walking required on easy sealed paths along the river. The track
covers fascinating nineteenth century water races, paper and woollen
mills, aqueduct river crossings and bridges. Over twenty sites will
be viewed including the famous 14 span 756m Ovoid Sewer Aqueduct
across the floodplain.
GUIDE: Ros Lewis Deakin University historian
Cost $22, National Trust members $20, includes bus hire, guide
commentary, lunch at Barwon Grange and excursion notes. Bookings
