Hi! Peter,
If you go to http://www.vic.gov.au/prov/Unassisted1.asp and search for Jane Robertson you will find that some 47 Jane/Janet Robertson's arrived in Victoria between 1852 & 1889, including one in June 1863 on the Maori. There were 9 John Whyte's but none in 1863 and 32 J* Whyte's but again none in 1863. The other possibility is that they came out as Assisted Immigrants. These records are not on-line - you have to go to the PRO in Melbourne to search their records.
