Hi Folks,
I think the original request was about adoption in 1849 !! The Geelong
Female Refuge and Bethany Babies' Home began in the 1850s, as did the
Protestant Orphanage and St Augustine's. There were various Benevolent
Asylums too.
HOWEVER, there were two SILK families on the Sir George Seymour - were they
brothers? It would be most unusual for this "young" father to give the baby
away if he was travelling with other family members.
