Hi,
I am looking for anyone with any connections to a McDonald family, who may have lived in Geelong around 1850.
John McDonald arrived in Victoria about 1844 after 6 years in Tasmania. He was 73 years old and a Cooper. He came from Ross and Cromarty in Scotland.
In 1849 his wife Flora, and sons Malcolm, John and Murdoch and daughter Anne arrived in Australia on the Mahomet Shah - and "left on own accord to Geelong". Another son, Archibald, with his wife Annabella arrived on the same ship, but they "left on own accord to Lonsdale Street". I assume that the father would have been living at Geelong at that time.
In 1851, Archibald and Annabella had a son, Norman, who was though born at Melbourne, christened at the Presbyterian Church Melbourne - Geelong (Fiche 479 & 182).
By about 1855 there is evidence that the family lived in Ballarat, and they were associated with WJT Clarke. Further locations were Lexton, Learmonth, Berwick and Marnoo.
I am looking for any information on this family, and hope to make contact with anyone researching this family.
Thanks a lot.
