Hello Susie,
Thank you for your reply. HUGHES David, also son
HUGHES Edward, had a articile written about them both in "THE VICTORIAN
CENTENARY BOOK" for years 1934-1935.

A outline about the articile written is that HUGHES David
did quite well at the diggngs around Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat, he was
able to give up work and joined the staff of the BENDIGO brewery, where he
remained until his death in 1863 at Castlemaine.

His son HUGHES Edward followed in his father's footsteps
throughout his working lifetime. Starting with the CASTLEMAINE brewery,
and then transferred his services to the GEELONG brewery, owned and
controlled by the well-remembered Captain VOLUM. Here he remained for twelve
years and then joined forces with the RUSHWORTH brewery. He and his wife
Sophia were residents of Geelong for 59 years before Edwards death in 1936
at Geelong and is buried with his wife Sophia at the Western Cemetery.

I am going by other family members, that state that HUGHES
Edward or his father David also had connections with the Ballarat Brewery.
I obtained a copy of this item from "THE VICTORIAN CENTENARY BOOK" many
years ago from a Aunt, that also lived in Geelong for over 70 years.

Any help would be appreciated Susie. I am sorry I cannot tell
you the exact brewery names, but they must have been around Geelong and the
Victorian Goldfields area.

Regards
Pat Sharp
