Hi Listers,
I have just downloaded some birth/baptism details from the Vic. BDM website.
When I searched the index for my rellie I found two entries that matched, one had a registration number of 11268 and the other 32525. To be sure, I requested both registrations, only to find that one was just a copy of the other.
Also, as the birth occurred in 1852 the record is not the standard birth registration that gives you lots of interesting information, it is only that of the baptism register- one line of basic info. So, for $35 all I found out was my rellie's date of birth and date of baptism. Not very economical, but we live and learn.
The only bonus is that instead of the standard five entries that appear on a page of birth registrations, there are 28 separate entries on the page.
The page that appears to be the original, entitled, "Return of the Wesleyan Baptisms in the Geelong Circuit, in the County of Grant, in the Colony of Victoria, 1st April 1852 to 30th June 1852" has registration numbers from 11255 to 11282 inclusive. The other record has registration numbers 32512 to 32526 inclusive.
Most of the births are for couples who stated their abode as Geelong or Chilwell, with the odd one for Ashby, Limeburners Point, Indented Head, Barrabool Hills, Little Scotland.
If anyone has a registration falling in this number range and would like the details, drop me a line and I'd be more than happy to provide them.
Maybe I might be able to save someone else a few bucks !
Cheers,
Liz
